Why I Hunt for Antiques and Artifacts from Aspen Antiques and Collectibles

Treasure hunting has been my pastime since I was young. Obviously, I do not mean treasure hunting like Indiana Jones or Blackbeard’s lost gold. I hunt for antiques and artifacts and while my search does not take me to faraway exotic lands, I do find myself in some fascinating locales. And even though I have not found the end of the rainbow, I have discovered many priceless items.

At the start, my searches started at area antique markets. One {point I soon|aspect I rapidly|thing I quickly learned is that antiquing is a complex little bubble of its own. First off, I soon realized that I needed a lot of experience to know what was valuable and what was just rusty garbage. Dozens of online sources can train you about the most collected items and make you wiser about what is honestly collectible. Of course, no one is going to quickly learn the details of all of the myriad categories and particular items that get collected, but good resources will provide you with a broad concept of what to look for when searching for antiques and artifacts.

The next thing I found out is that antique dealers do not like to be treated as though they are running a big yard sale. Brokers takes great pains in filling their markets with what they judge to be valuable and worthy items. If you walk in and offer a couple dollars for something that is surely expensive, you may get asked to leave. Antique dealers are earnest about their business and loathe low-ballers. Haggling is common and totally acceptable, but try to do so from a win-win point of view.

Antiquing is fun and very interesting, but it definitely necessitates a wealth of information to have real success. So I do some hunting for genuine buried treasure pretty regularly. As I said before, I do not go into the jungles or ancient ruins searching for artifacts – I just head to my toolshed, grab my metal detector, and simply choose a spot to scan. I have located old Civil War artifacts like bullets and buttons and of course lots of change and jewelry. Sometimes I use just my eyes to hunt for artifacts like arrowheads, terracotta shards, and the occasional firearm. You just need some research on historical sites and of course, a big helping of patience. You would be surprised at how priceless something as small as a piece of Native American earthenware can be to a museum.
